I know it’s not Christmas… yet.

If it was, then there’ll be 2 days before our wedding in the Philippines =) But well… that was a tangent. Let me get back to what I wanted to post about.

I was on an emo trip last night after spending 3 hours on the train from Newcastle, listening to music. I had a bunch of stuff to read with me, and even games to play to keep me busy on the trip. But, I still ended up just listening to songs. In my device I had songs like Kanlungan, Noypi, Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo, even Biyahe Tayo. Whilst staring out at the superb sunset in the Central Coast, I was tearful at powerful lyrics, I didn’t care to cry then coz there wasn’t much people in the train anyway hehe. When I got home I was yearning to hear some other songs that struck a chord in me, years ago. I ended up digging through youtube for other All-star recordings like Voices that Care, We are the World and Do they know it’s Christmas.

Voices that Care was released in 1991 during the Persian Gulf crisis. We are the World, by United Artists for Africa in 1985, and also Do they know its Christmas in 1984 (which came out before We are the world) by distinct British/Irish artists during the famine in Ethiopia.

It was enjoyable to watch the videos. There are quite a number of “the making” videos that were also fun to watch. “The making” videos:

Voices that Care (Part 1)

The best of them in my opinion is Do they know it’s Christmas. The lyrics were much more fresh, and much less dated. Though yes, it’s a Christmas song aimed towards a specific cause. [warning --- this turns out to be a very groupie-like schoolgirl tone] And may I say, the most that I got a kick out of was seeing those British acts looking really young and dashing!
