Talong or not to talong.

January 24th, 2007

Ano ba talaga?

So ayan na ang Semis: Women– Maria vs Kim, Serena vs Nicole; Men– Fed vs Andy. Ongoing QF will decide whether it’s Nadal OR Gonzo vs Haas OR Davydenko for the Semis.

Unfounded prediction for the finals: (I wish! It is of course likely to go another way.)

Women: Maria Sharapova (Russia) vs Nicole Vaidosova (Czech)
Men: Roger Federer (US) vs Rafael Nadal (Spain)

Courtesy Ch7: Rafa’s wedgie scoreboard as of last game: 170 wedgies in 5 sets in a four-hour period. Hehe, kung si Sharapova laging nag-aayos ng buhok plus two ball bounces bago mag-serve, si Nadal naman laging nag-aayos ng pantalon! Ansikip kasi! Hehe.

Cricket and Tennis.

January 18th, 2007

Injured hamstring. Hehe.

Ah, I didn’t see the show. To those of you who did, care to tell some stories? I’m just here to do a bit of useless and boring commenting, often unrelated to the results of the Globes.

Beautiful Faces: Ian Somerhalder

January 15th, 2007

Ok, so I’m starting up these no-brainer posts I used to do before. I think I’ve outdone serious and lonely for the past months already, so give me a break ok? Let me start this off with my most favorite faces in celebrity-dom (in no particular order).
========================================
Ian Somerhalder: BooneSeriously, have you forgotten about Boone? Seems to me that he’s being overlooked a lot. It’s a real shame.

Fine– condemn me as a fangirl again. Yes I know Ian Somerhalder has those smoldering good looks that gave him the right to be a Guess model before he even came to television. He’s one hell of an actor too. Just let him stand still in a scene, and his piercing stare is enough to convey the required emotions. But he has yet to earn stardom as he hasn’t landed a “break” that would define his career in Tinseltown.

LOST is reputably the most puzzling TV series running to date. I seriously cannot understand why I keep watching it when I could, when I kept saying that I won’t anymore each time an episode ends (… sige na nga, syempre gusto ko din mapanuod si Matthew Fox). Can’t deny that it is one of the few shows that make you think, conjecture, swear expletives and shake your fists in the air in frustration. Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder), no doubt, is unforgettable to me. (SPOILERS AHEAD!) I used to whine so much when he was killed off from the show. But then, the seemingly incestuous pairing with stepsister Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace) came too awkward, and often distasteful in the story, that I was soon glad they did away with the characters. (END OF SPOILER)

His performance in Smallville as Adam Knight was a bit shameful (perhaps, too strong a word), because then again, he may have been regarded as too much of the heartthrobby type cast alongside cheerleadery Kristen Kreuk’s “Lana Lang”. It would be an even more terrible shame if they, those Smallville decision-makers I mean, don’t spin-off that last episode he was in sometime! Though I doubt that they ever will. (SPOILER ALERT TO THE UNINFORMED) He was supposed to be a dead guy brought back to life, right? So did they kill him off just like that, after not getting that “serum-type” that was keeping him alive? Isn’t that just so lame? (END OF SPOILER)

Ian also guested in CSI and CSI:Miami, both of which happened 1-2 years before his Smallville appearance. I have yet to watch a movie with him in it. He has completed one last year alongside David Strathairn (Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream) directed by a still unknown, Aaron J. Wiederspahn.

Online digging has informed me that Ian is my age, sharing the same birthday as our fellow blog-hopper trinity. Cool eh? Oh and while we’re at it, he is also dating his stepsister. You know who I mean, the actress Maggie Grace, his co-star in LOST.

The Amazing Race.

August 11th, 2006

I know how late I am when it comes to what stuff is new and happening. So yeah, I normally don’t watch a lot of TV, but because of my faithful personal TiVo (Ajay’s unwavering divX files) I get to see recent past and present TV fads. He brought me up to speed in the Amazing Race. I first got a glimpse of this reality gig on a local channel showcasing the initial episode of that series with Survivor couple Rob and Amber (season 7). I never got to see the subsequent episodes. I wasn’t even able to ride the hype of the show when it passed through the Philippines on one of its legs in Season 5 Just for the record, I gotta say I’m no big fan of reality TV. Yet this one is something else. Getting a sneak peek into what’s there to see in Russia or Brazil is really sumthin!

(spoilers may follow)

Ajay and I watched another season (season 9) featuring BJ and Tyler, the “Hippies”. I was so rooting for them from the very beginning. Imagine my contented silence when the race was over and they were declared winners. It was surprising to see the race end so suddenly with their victory, I wanted to see more. Their closest competition, the “Fratboys” (I realize I can’t remember their names) were almost always ahead of the race; you can see how disappointed they were to come in second on the last leg. BJ and Tyler, who were always in a frolicky cheery demeanor, got plenty lucky despite being sloppy towards the end. They even lost their cash by arriving last in non-elimination pit-stops! But boy, they are really funny to watch and silly as they come, they’re quite devious too.

I’d have to agree with what one of the contenders said that the show made them feel how small the world was. Ajay and I got to chatting about how wonderful it would be to visit so many countries (they went to 9 I think?) in a month’s time! That has got to be the goal for a honeymoon dontchathink? ;) Now how does one join such a contest…

House, M.D.

July 18th, 2006

Everybody lies.
People lie for many reasons, but there’s always a reason.
You would’ve lied!
Yeah and you would’ve believed me!

Differential diagnosis… aaaaand go!

Two seasons out, impatient for the third. Ajay started me out watching this TV drama series starring funny Brit Hugh Laurie. Hilarious, I say! You’d think, is anyone really that obnoxious? Not to mention incredibly intuitive, surprisingly receptive and unrelentingly obsessive.

[***Thank you Ajay for the assistance in the information. I had to have my fiction-facts straight :) mwah!]

house5Dr. Gregory House, infectious disease specialist and nephrologist, is head of the Department of Diagnostic Medicine in the Princeton Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. House is a brilliant diagnostician. What does a diagnostician do? Duh, he diagnoses. Often those medical cases whose causes are most mysterious and brain-racking; the evasive virus, the benign but troublesome tumor, the hiding bloodclot or the invisible bacteria. After all, puzzles are what drive him in his job. He would take risks on his patient’s health, be it spelling life or death, not necessarily out of hopeful hope, but because he has (or not even) statistics to back up his decisions, or maybe just because he says he knows he’s right. He is the administrative nightmare: incomplete documentation, red tape, extortion, even blackmail, harassment, breaking-and-entering (his patient’s homes, research for medical reasons) and assault!

He is supposedly world-reknowned in the medical field and is respected by his peers in a very queer way. If you’re a character in the story, you can’t really say you’d love him. He has a nastiness about him that repels the nicest of people; the witty quips are often insulting albeit charming in the weirdest sense. Why the cane? Watch and find out. It adds a vulnerability to the character; I think he would otherwise seem uninteresting if he was able to walk straight. Check out his shoes too. House’s clinic hours are comic relief!

HouseHouse has 3 doctors to his bidding; Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) the lovely immunologist who cares about everyone and insists on always doing what is right; Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) the dashing intensivist who loves his job and will do anything to keep it (for now); and Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), the black car-thief neurologist, seemingly second-in command but why bother finding out when House always gets his way anyway.

Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) is hospital administrator. Her mantra seems to be “I hired House because he is great at what he does”. She is often the object of House’s snide sexual remarks. When I saw her in this show, I had to rummage through my videos for “As Good As It Gets” (starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt). Yes, she was there. The Jewish woman in the restaurant. Her face is soooo distinct. house4House surprisingly has a confidante in the character of oncologist Dr. Wilson (what’s his first name?), played by Robert Sean Leonard. Yep, that guy from Dead Poet’s Society. Despite House’s neverending pokes at his supposed clandestine affairs with the nurses, Dr. Wilson remains a friend. For how long I wonder? Sela Ward appears as his ex-wife. You may remember her from the Harrison Ford blockbuster “the Fugitive” where she plays Dr. Kimble’s wife.

“House may be right.”
“House is right.”
“House was right.”
“House is always right.”
“Yes I am.”

I can’t say anything else about the show without sounding even more mediocre— when in fact it isn’t. Bryan Singer produces the TV show. Hugh Laurie (House) appeared in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. as that guy who sat beside Rachel in the plane to London; he was one of the puppy thugs 101 Dalmatians; he played a rich husband (Mr Smith I think?) in Sense and Sensibility.

Prison Break (TV)

February 1st, 2006

Prison Break packs a wallop on how TV series are made. Of course, I say this now because I recently finished watching (as of last night) the 10 initial episodes Ajay brought me last weekend. Ajay posts about the TV series here.

And, of course, here I am now to rave about the actors that clinched my eye.

Wenthworth Miller is perfectly cast as Micheal Scofield, the structural-engineer -turned-convict with a twisted sense of hope as he enters the penitentiary with the intent of going Shawshank. Background check: Wentworth is a Princeton graduate. (I’m like… aaaah, so that’s why he speaks so beautifully in the behind-the-scenes interviews.) I’ve confused him at first with a certain child actor (whose name escapes me now), but it turns out I’ve never seen him before.

Peter Stormare is an italian mobster boss John Abruzzi inside the same prison walls as Scofield. Now this actor, is one of the villanous-types who I absolutely enjoy watching! He was hysterical in Armageddon as that Russian cosmonaut; and creepy in Fargo. Background check: He’s Swedish (not Russian nor Italian). Upon receiving the Fargo script, he says “Where are all my lines?!” He’s accepted the fact that he is type-casted as either funny, creepy, or both. And never in the ranks of Nic Cage, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise hehehe. He is also in Constantine as Satan by the way.

As for the rest of the cast… I’ll need to see more episodes for better opinions of them.

The series has won the People ‘s Choice Award (2006) for favorite New TV Drama, Wentworth Miller was nominated in the Golden Globes (2006) for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

LOST in Love

January 25th, 2006

Lost StarsWell, I’ll be damned.

Charlie and Kate from the hit popular series LOST recently got engaged in real life.

The British-born actor – who plays rock star Charlie in the hit show – is said to have proposed to stunning Evangeline in Hawaii last week.

The happy pair are now planning to jet to the UK to share their happy news with Dominic’s family.
A source is quoted in Britain’s Sunday Mirror newspaper as saying: “They want to spend the rest of their lives together.

I never saw that coming. I tought ‘freckles’ and ‘saywer’ would eventually hit it off.
