…And we’re back!

August 1st, 2007

For the record, our bandwidth from our host was apparently sucked up. I have no idea if we are getting more and more visitors or spam and robots are sucking up the bandwidth.

Hrrrmmp.

I think I have to shell out some more money to avoid the next hiccup by the end of the month. Problem is, again, I don’t know if this is just a weird glitch or something is indeed happening in the background.

Oh well. It’s still good to be back.

And on the day before Pen’s birthday no less!

Pinoy Blogging @ jAneP

January 30th, 2007

It’s interesting how blogging has evolved into this new “media” that is getting a lot of hoopla. Of course this mutation from a sea of disconnects into a “blogosphere” is only natural once you have the bloggers getting a grip on what they have in their hands. Some are clever to recognize that “content is king”, and are getting good hits in their blogs. And the rise of pinoy bloggers as a breed of new heroes can be a bit overwhelming… but then again, maybe not too much. It’s often inevitable that Pinoys would steal the scene in a popular medium as blogs. Don’t you agree?

Still there are still the rest of us who blog for our own pleasure. An avenue for emotional diarrhea if I am permitted to say so. A lot of incoherent junk that gets put up in the strangest of times. Eh? Yes I know it’s junk. But it’s our junk, and I love it! I’m sure Ajay agrees. It’s much his junk as it is mine anyways =P

It hasn’t been a decade when I jumped into my concept of blogging at blogspot, and nothing much has changed in the way I perceive it now that Ajay and I share the same page. So instead of speaking now about my concept, I should really say our concept. We started weblogging here in jAneP (aha! thanks to my friends here who started using that lettercasing, I think it’s really cool) not really thinking of a theme, but a merging of our “web personas” silverhoundus and purplepenelope (hence the SilPur life, to state the obvious, a parody to “a simple life”). Hmmm, I think drizzling this post later with our peyups avatars* would be nice, eh?

A new dimension to jAneP emerged now I’m away from the Philippines. It may have not been apparent to others, but this site has meant much more now more than before, if it is possible. It really is fascinating how far your presence can be felt, and how simple it can be. I would take this for granted sometimes, but blogging keeps me home. Sounds silly, but I do see and feel that blue ribbon that Globe Telecom uses in its visual ads somehow. (O! Libreng advertising yan ah!)

As for our concept of blogging? I don’t see a reason why it should change this year, called by Joey Alarilla as the Year of the Pinoy Blogger. Ajay and I will still be cruising on as we always have. Blog on!

WordPress 2.1

January 23rd, 2007

Wordpress

Whew.

It took me 2 hours to finish the upgrade to WordPress 2.1.

I just finished the upgrade and I am now testing to see if all goes well with this entry. I have 2 plugins that broke down so I have to get the latest release which will be compatible with 2.1.

Let me know if you see any problems. :)

Janep Reboot

September 18th, 2006

I don’t know what happened but when I came in this morning, the latest entries were lost. Seems like the provider did some things in their end.

I’ve upped the latest backup that I have here in my PC that’s why the latest 3 or 4 posts are gone.

I’ll try to fix the Pen’s thumbnail pictures through the day.

Thanks.

Live Updates

February 7th, 2006

If you are seeing a somewhat broken layout, that may be me messing around and not your browsers. I’m trying to do a quick fix on the sidebar thingy (which is hopefully fixed by now) for the IE users reading accessing the page.

At the same time, I’m tweaking some minor adjustments in the site that I have been pushing off until now.

Pa-konti-konti lang ang galaw para madaling ibalik sa dati kung sakaling may masira uli.

Theme broken

February 6th, 2006

Sorry. I broke the theme layout again.

When using IE, the sidebar is shown after all the posts. I’ll try to fix it within the day.

Sigh.

IE you suck. Show some respect to the CSS standards will you!

WordPress 2.0 Upgrade

December 27th, 2005

I just completed the upgrade of WordPress to 2.0.

I am still blown away with the changes they made here in the backend. A lot of AJAX scripts are implemented in the Dashboard much like in WordPress.com. I’m still cleaning up the mess made by some of my plugins. I have to do away with some plugins that are not compatible or are redundant with the WordPress default.

Oh, I’ll be changing the layout too. Watch out for that.

On blogging

December 12th, 2005

I never meant to make blogging seriously. Up until now, I?m still blogging just for the fun of it and to keep my friends up to date of what?s happening with me (and pen of course). Pen started blogging ahead of me using a LiveJournal account. I followed suit a couple of months after pen with my own LJ account. I eventually shifted to a greatestjournal because my previous company blocked the LJ site.

When ePinoy came, I signed up an account an installed wordpress. ePinoy was an erratic webhost and is down most of the time. Good thing that I was able to backup my database from ePinoy before they eventually folded up. By that time, I decided to buy a domain name and avail of the webhosting services of nokiahost. Janep came to life on June 2005 and is up and running by July 2005.

Pen’s blogs from the start (LJ up to ePinoy) are safely stored here – purpleblabbers under janep while mine are here – points of inflection under janep. They are still a good read and memories would be flooding back to me.

Jumping to present day, I can confidently say that I’m not a casual blogger anymore. Though, I’m not yet a professional blogger too. I just know the in’s and out’s of the blogging world. I’ve been monitoring the traffic of the site using google analytics and is now trying to generate profit out of all this. Again, it has never been my goal to make money out of this. Baka lang kumita, malay natin. I’m just having fun. We are just having fun. :)

Quick Favor

December 7th, 2005

Hi readers.

Just a very quick favor.

If you haven’t noticed, there are banners in our sidebar. I applied for Google AdSense and see if I can generate income from this site. Well, as of now, I already have $0.01 income. ?

Anyway, if you have nothing else to do with your internet connection, try to click a banner ad. It’s not really that desperate. I just wanted to see if this thing really works.

Oh, and another thing. There’s also a Firefox button. If I am not mistaken, that will be $1 per successful download. I’m pretty sure that IP addresses will be logged so 1 download per IP will do.

I’ll let you know if money is flowing in.

Thanks!

*from GoogleAdsense:
When a user you?ve referred to Firefox plus Google Toolbar runs Firefox for the first time, you?ll receive up to $1 in your account, depending on the user?s location.
I guess, we have to uninstall our Firefox first. Oh well..

Okay, I found a way to let you see the interactive flash of the Geo Map Overlay I posted here.

You need to have flash plugin installed in your browser to be able to view this page.

Click here to see the world map of hits. :D Allow some time to load.

This overlay is from the last week of November only. I’ll see if I can do a whole month thing.

*can’t get it to work with IE (what else is new?), please try to load it in firefox instead*
