Off to Long Weekend

April 12th, 2006

It’s that time of year again to just stay home or be at a resort with the rest of the people not praying. This year, I will be at home and spend my time watching DVDs and playing PS2. Wasn’t able to plan how to spend the long vacation and with our busy schedule (Pen and me), it was a no-contest that we will be staying home this time.

When I was a kid, it used to be a default time to go to Bataan (province of my dad) on the wee hours of Maundy Thursday. I get to play billiards and pool (the one with pitcha and borax) and watch the penitents flag themselves on the streets (yes, there was real blood on their backs). We usually join the 2-hr long procession on Good Friday night and go swimming to the same place the whole day of Black Saturday. In between these days, we visit the other relatives in the area and enjoy the sumptuous feast that they would prepare for us. I haven’t been there again for 10 or so years. I doubt that I still know the kids I played with there.

Now that I am a working professional (naks!), vacation times are spent on the bed and catching up the sleeps that I missed. Either that or off someplace else where we could relax and unwind. And of course, no use of battling the traffic during these times. Reminds me of those Disney/Bugs Bunny cartoons where the roads are squeaky clean and when somebody’s car starts moving, the roads will instantly be filled with other cars that came from nowhere. That’s how it is here in EDSA, SLEX and NLEX.

That will be all for now. See you next week.

Kuwentong Barbero

March 21st, 2006

I have this silly fear of barbers. Not that I actually fear the barbers themselves, but the actual ritual of having my hair cut. You see, I have my hair cut in an average of every four months time. By that time, the hair on my sides is already halfway covering my ears and my back hair is already touching the collars of my shirts.

I in fact love my hair when it is long. Although admittedly I have to somehow ?maintain? it, it?s worth the effort. I take pride on my long hair. The only thing that makes me want to cut my hair is the heat my head absorbs especially during the summer days. That?s why I had my hair cut last week.

And my fear dawned on me when the barber started cutting my mane. My anxiety grew as I see my cut hairs falling down on the floor. I mean, they are barbers not hair stlyists. I have that sense of apprehension as the barber keeps on cutting my hair and that I can?t do something to undo any unwanted hair cut. I lost about 2-3 inches length of my hair after the ordeal.

I can?t say I am completely happy with my hair ? especially my big critique criticizing my new cut (that would be Pen). Well, I have to manage with my current hair for the next 4 months before I go back to this same ritual.

Oh I forgot to add, adding to my uneasiness with my last hair cut is the new barber which took care of my hair. I have been faithfully having my hair cut with the same group of barbers since 3rd year high school. That’s around 12 years of going to the same barbershop. The only time I had my hair cut other than my suking barbero is when Pen treated me to David’s Salon in Katipunan some years back.

UP Naming Mahal

February 28th, 2006

Look what I’ve found.
You passed!
This is the letter I received from UP telling me I passed UPCAT. It’s dated Feb 18, ’95.

That’s freakin’ 11 years now man. I’m wondering how was I able to keep that paper for 11 years. Now that I’ve found it (not that I was looking for it in the first place), maybe I’ll have it stored in a safe and nice place.

I’m not a pack rat in general, but I do keep worthy sentimental (however korni that sounds) things someplace. Problem is, I usually forgot where that someplace is. So when I dig up things in my mahiwagang kahon, I find these things that will either amuse me or annoy me.

Here’s another ‘treasure’ I found along with the admission letter
Isko Survival Kit
This for sure I’m keeping along with my other stuffs. If I am not mistaken, I have 2 copies of this kit. Anthony and I got 2 copies because there were ‘free fishball stubs’ inside the kit. You know how it is in UP when there are freebies abound, go and grab the oppurtunity.

The whole book is worth reading and full of instructions and little trivia for the new isko. I especially liked the UP Lingo section and the cartoon strip section. I’ll have a few scans/shots of those pages if the mood hits me.

Apart from these two memorabilia, there’s nothing more that I have saved from the early-UP-days. Oh wait, I got my UP ID’s hidden somewhere. I have, let me think, 5 ID’s if I can recall correctly. As mentioned earlier, basta libre, sugod; the ID’s on the other hand are cheap – 15 pesos ata. So Anthony and I planned to have a new ID every sem and always keeping the old one for keeps. Then I remember a conversation with Anthony, “Dapat pala bawat pa-ID natin pareho pa rin ang tshirt na suot natin para makita talaga yung pagbabago natin”, sabay ngising Anthony. What actually happened was we got a new ID everytime we have a new hairdo. I have my first one when I have a flat-top hair, one with a slightly longer hair, and one with a long hair, one with a decent look (when I was already an instructor). Too bad the ID fees went up and we can’t continue doing the practice.

Enough reminiscing now. Have to catch up a deadline for the day.

:)

Busy, busy, busy

February 22nd, 2006

I’m a sleep person. So whenever I do not reach my 8-9hrs quota of sleep, I get rattled and cranky the following day. I rarely get sleepy during the day. I’m fully awake but feels the need to sleep.

I’ve been juggling my official work, the raket, the training, the dvds, the downloads of tv series, the ps2, the quality time and the sleep. And it’s now catching up on me. I’m losing my precious sleep time. :(

Better ask him why.

Goodbye VirraMall

January 16th, 2006

Virra Mall is virtually gone. Pen and I were surprised when we went there last Saturday. Everything that we look forward on seeing there are gone. From the National Bookstore at the first floor, the DEC drinks, Shawarma, 2Rats, Filbars, Chichiria stalls, EYO, anime store, Arena and of course the DBDs – they are all gone.

The area was cleared and all was left was an SM Appliance stall that replaced the National Bookstore place and a Toy Kingdom in place of the PC stores in the 2nd floor. Nanghinayang kami pareho.

Not to let the V-Mall’s new look affect our cheap date, we trotted to MetroWalk. That’s the new place where the DBD boys are. There are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of TV series dvd there and Korean/Chinese/Japanese telenovelas. We bought: Serenity, The Man, 40 yr old virgin, Excorcism of Emily Rose, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pride & Prejudice and 24 Season 1. I hope it’s all worth it. Haven’t watched every single one of it yet but so far so good.

The highlight of the day for me is when we ate a Razon’s halo-halo at Megamall. Razon’s is slowly getting known here in Manila. They are a genuine Guagua Pampanga cuisine. You should try their halo-halo. It’s one of a kind. :D

Hide birdie hide

January 12th, 2006

Ngayon, parang taga-UP uli.

Itatago muna kita kaisa-isang black slacks.
