Advertising skills at it’s finest.
With the advent of Mac opening it’s arms to Windows, there has been a friendly competition going on. These set of ads will make you laugh or hate Mac for bashing Windows.

I’ve spent 8 hours of gaming time last weekend. Played the much anticipated Kingdom Hearts sequel. Though I did not played the first one – Pen played most of it – I know how the game works. It’s a real-time-battle-system RPG unlike the FF series which are turn-based. I’m enjoying it so far. Disney and Squaresoft characters are all over the place as usual. I hope I’ll have enough patience with this one so that I can finish the game.
Then yesterday, my copy of Black finally worked on the unit. It’s a first person shooting game much like the infamous CounterStrike. The graphics is awesome. I haven’t played an FPS in the PS2 so I was really blown away with the graphics compared to the CS/Doom/BattleField Earth graphics from the PC. The only downside, as with other players like me who mostly played FPS on the PC, the controls are hard to master. I miss the mouse and keyboard combo. Sigh.

In case you missed it, the biggest news last week was that Apple now officially supports Windows to be run on Macs.
Run XP natively
Once you?ve completed Boot Camp, simply hold down the option key at startup to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. (That?s the ?alt? key for you longtime Windows users.) After starting up, your Mac runs Windows completely natively. Simply restart to come back to Mac.
Prior to this, it was a long-running rumor that Apple will let users install Windows in their precious Mac hardware. There was even a Digg story that someone was awarded a cash prize when Apple challenged hackers to install XP on the Macs. When the feat was done, Apple recognized the hacker and officially released their bootcamp software.
And now, the gates (pun not intended) are open. There are unlimited possibilities with Steve Jobs’ action. It’s a win-win situation for both sides in my opinion. Macs are shipped/sold with the OS X software already bundled in it. Apple will definitely not lose their OS market. Bill Gates empire will go full blast now that they can have a piece of pie from the Apple market. I for one will now consider buying a Mac now that I know I can install my favorite Window appz on Mac.

I?ve been itching to buy my portable mp3 player since last year. I?ve browsed TipidPC?s site for possible options and found 2-3 good offers. 256mb is good enough for me. I?m not after the capacity anymore as I don?t load up my playlist with lots of songs anyway. I just want to listen to my weekly podcasts during my travel to and from work.
I?m currently subscribed to TWiT and Diggnation?s weekly tech podcast. Both show are an offshoot of the now defunct TV show Call for Help popularized by Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton. This is my way to be updated with the current tech happenings around the world. And this is my reason why I wanted to have an mp3 player more than having to listen to mp3 songs.
So there, hopefully I will be able to buy one before April ends. I just need an extra money to fund my gadgets.

Google compiled the search statistics for the year 2005. Interesting quick read.
Have a look.
It turns out that looking at the aggregation of billions of search queries people type into Google reveals something about our curiosity, our thirst for news, and perhaps even our desires. Considering all that has occurred in 2005, we thought it would be interesting to study just a few of the significant events, and names that make this a memorable year. (We?ll leave it to the historians to determine which ones are lasting and which ephemeral.) We hope you enjoy this selective view of our collective year.

I enrolled an account at Google Analytics to see an overview of our traffic here at janep.
Take a look at the screenshot:

I was quite surprised that I have a hit from Europe, India and Africa. I know for sure that I have 2 readers from US (that’s you huntherx & dax). But are you 2 state-hopping? There’s a bunch of dots both in the west coast and the east coast. I have no idea where the hits come from. Must be from the Twilight Theme I’m using since the author linked me from her site.
How about playing a game and tell me the countries/places where the hits are coming from?

Ever wanted to share a big file to your friends which cannot fit into an email message? With the advent of today’s technology, there are a lot of sites which offer filehosting services. 50-100mb files are easily shared nowadays.
Here’s a list I snatched from gHacks

I’ve been meaning to customize my firefox browser the way it was in my previous office. I have to re-download most of the plugins I used to suit my needs. This time, I will take time to list them down so that I can do this again the next time I have to reconfigure my browser. Most of the plugins are just 10-15kb in size. Not much download hog.
Here are my current plugins:
Tabbrowser Preferences
This extension adds GUI options to change some of the hidden tab browser preferences available in Firefox. It additonally provides the following features:
AdBlock
Once installed, it’s a snap to filter elements at their source-address. Just right-click: Adblock: done. Filters use either the wildcard character (*) or full Regular Expression syntax. Hit the status-element and see what has or hasn’t been blocked.
Greasemonkey
Allows you to customize the way a webpage displays using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of poular sites, are already available in the Greasemonkey script repository at http://dunck.us/collab/GreaseMonkeyUserScripts. You can write your own scripts too. Mark Pilgrim’s definitive Greasemonkey guide, diveintogreasemonkey.org will show you how.
MiniT
Adds tab dragging with drop place indicator.
Single Window
Allows Mozilla to simple extension that fully utilizes the built-in tabbed browsing behavior, compatible with Mozilla, Netscape, and Firefox. Single Window has the following options: Enable Single Window Mode (must be enabled for all other options to work) Traps links that would normally open in a new window and opens them in a new tab instead. * Open external links in new tabs. External links can be set to open in a new tab instead of the currently active tab. * Open links with invalid targets in new tabs. Redirects links that point to invalid target frames to new tabs instead of new windows. * Load home page in new tabs. Loads the home page in any new tabs. * Open JavaScript links in new tabs. Redirects JavaScript window.open links to new tabs instead of windows. Requires restart of application to disable this feature.
IE Tab
IE Tab, an extension from Taiwan, features embedding Internet Explorer in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox. This extension is derived from the famous extension IE View, but they are quite different. While IE View always open IE-only pages in newly launched windows of Internet Explorer, IE Tab can open them in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox.
Session Saver
SessionSaver restores your browser -exactly- as you left it, every startup, every time. Not even a crash will phase it. Windows, tabs, even things you were typing — they’re all saved. Use the menu to add + remove sessions; right, shift, or middle-clicking will delete. “Simple mode” for peace of mind, or “Expert mode” for advanced flexibility. Just Click. Install. Rad.
Added TextSaver: everything you type, saved (even in frames). Added RemoteSync: session-syncing between browsers (syncs Adblock, too). Added intelligent postData-restore. Added various patches + bugfixes, per discussion in the official support thread.

Bought a USB enclosure yesterday.
With this, you can make your ordinary hard disk drives to be portable. This is enclosure can also carry an ordinary CDWriter or a DVD Writer. It plugs into a USB port and you have to plug it into a separate power source. I bought this because my 512mb flashdisk is not enough for my files. I need to have a much larger storage place. Since I have 2 extra HDD in the house, might as well put them into good use.
Enclosure comes with a trendy black bag.
