It was the early 80s, and I was watching a lot of Candy Candy (I had a doll of Candy Candy, which, much to my shock, was given away
Worst thing) and my brother was into meccha (like Voltes V, Daimos, and Mazinger Z.. there’s another one with planes I can’t remember the title… ). I couldn’t have been more than 5 years old.
Finally, I found info online about Princess Knight (Ribon no Kishi).
I couldn’t remember its title for the longest time. It might have been called differently. The last I remember of it was watching it on TV before I started school. I can remember a hazy story about a princess (Princess Sapphire), forced to disguise herself as a boy (Prince Sapphire) because of an evil relative threatening to take the throne in the absence of a male heir. I was so frightened by the concept of her being found out and get hurt. There is a romantic angle to this story that was disturbing to me then. As the princess posed as a prince, she fell in love with a boy (and was loved back by this same boy when she was her girl self). Very peculiar but intruiging to a young viewer eh? And I remember thinking, “She’s a girl but she looks cute as a boy too!” Ambiguous thoughts indeed.

Yuga is giving away Transformers T-shirt in his site – yugatech.com/blog.
All you need to do is leave a comment in this entry telling who is your favorite Transformers and why.
I’d easily pick Jazz. I would’ve picked Optimus Prime or Bumbleebee but people everywhere are also choosing them. So I’d go with the lesser known Autobot. More than that, Jazz is an uber cool car taking the form of a Porsche. Jazz for me is cooler than Bumbleebee, Ironhide or Ratchet. Prime’s cargo exterior is still a mystery for me (where the heck does it go whenever Prime transforms?!). Hot Rod will be another choice as he is another sports car in the cartoons but he is not one of the original robots of the show. And when Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime, kids all over are craving for him.

The wonders of cartoons are often the imagery and the characters, but what gives life most to the animated character is the voice.

It is fascinating how a cartoon character’s voice captures the viewer. Peter Cullen voices Optimus Prime in the Transformers cartoon, and it’s great to hear that he is also doing the voice for the now-completed movie. The original voice actor for Megatron isn’t doing it now though… I’m bummed I found out who is doing so instead and totally lost the mystery now. He’s quite a famous actor.
Anyway, back to Peter Cullen. It’s difficult to dig for photos of voice actors since they often are camery shy. There are some who dislike having their photos taken at all (like that woman doing the voices of Bart Simpson’s aunts). So I didn’t find a decent photo of him. But well, you can always look for yourselves.
Other characters he has voiced for are: Cindarr in “The Visionaries” and would you believe it.. Eeyore in “Winnie the Pooh”! Now thaaaaat is talent! I didn’t know this before but he also narrated for the Voltron Lions cartoon.

I took a break from a long afternoon of pencil-pushing. I was told that it is good for the mind to focus even on times of relaxation, rather than let it wander aimlessly amidst an activity as knitting. Well, I guess there is no harm in watching TV then!
But since I’ve been overloaded with the current TV series the past weeks, I wanted to see something else. I spent 10 minutes finding something good to watch and found Visionaries again. I’m sure Ajay has this stashed somewhere, but seeing I can only browse online for old shows like this, YouTube thankfully did not let me down this time.
It is a time when magic is more powerful than science, and only those who control magic control destiny… They, are the Visionaries.
