a work laptop’s refrain

laptop

Five days in a week
That’s all you have to offer
8 hours in a day
if i’m lucky a bit over

used to be with you
24/7 of your time
every day, every night
ticked my heart ’tis a crime

served you well, gave my all
even flew with you down under
let you bind me with your gadgets
burn your discs to fill your pleasure

now you’ve found a god of gods
one that drew you since forever
cannot blame you for your mind
for i know this one’s a keeper

sexy body, sleek and shimmery
with a brain i cannot beat
you were wowed by its beauty
dare i dream, i can’t compete

so with my spoils i remain
loyal to you for all the labor
and the frills and the thrills
til i die i shall remember

business.

or.. busy-ness.

Owing to our vacation in a month’s time, Ajay and I have been extra busy. On my end, I’m wrapping up work and writing for a paper due for its last round of revisions (crossed-fingers) as well as laying groundwork for continuing projects. Nothing fancy there, but definitely putting in extra hours to get a fair amount of work out of the way.

28 days to go and then it’s :yupi:

One thing that I’ve learned from going on vacations– aside of course from good ol’ R&R (rest and relaxation)— is that when I return to work (at least for me) I find it difficult to find my grasp of what I was doing before. This of course leads to a lot of backtracking, which takes up so much time.

One of the worst things that happened to me after my last trip home and back, I left an unfinished manuscript and a bunch of “poorly-documented” scripts that I had to learn again. Which is frustrating, since I wrote it all myself! I did bring a bunch of reading material with me on the holiday, and even worked remotely several times, but the momentum is just never the same.

So wish us luck as we breeze through the next month! Hopefully we’ll get things ironed out for the big day as well!

Naming Gadgets

October 30th, 2008

With the influx of gadgets in our hands, Pen and I decided to christen each of them yesterday. We were sort of doing this tradition few years back when we started to call our shared desktop in UP as “Tower1″ in honor of the Sept 11 tragedy – the day we also bought that desktop.

So how did our naming went? We zoomed in for a certain theme first. Fruits? Solar system? Actors? Mathematicians (ewww)?

We settled for the Greek mythos.

My Mac is Zeus. The god of gods.
Pen’s laptop is Nyx – “Goddess of darkness/night. She is also the only being from which Zeus turned from when her son Hypnos, who had angered Zeus, hid behind her.”

Our iPhones are twins so we have Apollo and Artemis.
My 40gb hdd is Achilles cause is slowly dying on me now (have to remember to back up the files!). My 512mb thumdrive is Borus – a mortal, manipulated by the gods (Zeus and Nyx). My 2gb thumdrive is Creon while Pen’s 2gb thumbdrive is Electra. Pen’s 320gb HDD is Dia while my 500gb is Hektor. And finally, the youngest of them all, my 320gb HDD is Kratos (the main character in God of War).

Our PSPs on the other hand being a gaming console, we settled for the Norse gods. We named them Loki and Freyja.

An Apple a day. That’s what.

Macbook Pro

It’s a Pro. Pen pushed me very hard to buy the pro. I’m loving it!
MBP

It took a lot of guts and cross computations if we could afford it. Well, we could not afford it with a one-time-big-time payment so we settled to stretch it out for 12 months.

Now I’m in the process of transferring my files to the new machine and of course configuring it.

So happy.

Thanks a lot Pen!

Canon PhotoMarathon ’08

October 20th, 2008

I joined the Singapore Leg of Canon’s PhotoMarathon this year.

Participants are given 3 hours to submit a photo according to the given theme.
Theme 1: 9am-12am “Change”
Theme 2: 1pm-4pm “Dreams”
Theme 3: 5pm-8pm “Freedom”

It was surprisingly tiring scrounging up photo opportunity around Singapore. It was an every man for himself contest but we stick as a group to be able to conceptualize easier. Well, that was the idea. In the end, we just rely on our interpretation and execution of the themes.

Pulau Ubin Trip

October 7th, 2008

Pulau Ubin

Was able to join PinoyCSers for a nature trip in Pulau Ubin. It’s a ferry ride away from ‘Singapore main land’. The sky was clear and the cloud formations are great. Buti di nasayang ang pagbilad sa araw.

Nature tripping plus walkathon equals sunog at pawisan na AJ. Not sure if I’ll be back there in the near future. Not much too see other than foliage and sky.

Rest of the pictures are in my flickr account. Too lazy to cross post here.
