Burning off treats

I gave myself a break last Friday and rewarded myself for all the “good deeds” I’ve done for the week. A bag of M&M plain chocolates. Now, it turns out I need to walk 53 minutes to burn them off. Geez.

Yes, no secrets about age, we’re almost thirty now. To me, this means I need more conviction in my life. One thing I have very little conviction of is the way I take care of my body. I have never been seriously conscious about my diet and physical activity until recently. I mean, I do take care of myself to some extent for better health, but I don’t really pay close attention to what I eat and what I do. Now that I’m about to hit the big 3-0, as most of my friends will in the next year or two (if they hadn’t already), I seriously feel the need now to rethink my life habits in general. Especially since I’ve gained so much weight (ooooh you wouldn’t believe) and it never seems to come off. It kinda got me frustrated at myself, so I really need to get my act back together.
So, an aspect where I would like to begin my changes is my general well-being. And I thought, walking might be my first step in this new resolve.
I’ve kickstarted a walking regimen recently, and I’ve been going at it for the past 2 weeks now.
So for the entire work-week (Mondays through Fridays) I get to do:
1. at least one hour a day of brisk walking, with about 10 minutes of continuous stairclimbing,
2. some amount of leisurely walking that take at least 15 minutes a day, and
3. light weightlifting (groceries!) one day a week, carried across a good 1-km hike.
I take the stairs instead of lifts (elevators) and take brief walks with co-lab members.
I’ve revamped my fridge components to fresh fruit and veggies. Processed food are now limited to canned fish (sardines and/or tuna) and a little cheese and lactose-free (very important, as I am soooo lactose intolerant!) milk. No soda. Meat consumption is all chicken and fish.
My usual recipe for a hearty meal is chicken and vegetables, roasted with olive oil and vinegar. Or there is the baked fish and veggies squeezed with lime or lemon. Veggies are often eggplant, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes. A snack is a serving of fruit or a handful of nuts. I still sneak in the occasional skyflakes with nutella, but I am slowly getting rid of that habit. It takes a bit of getting used to… but like I said in a much earlier post, it’s all about getting your tongue in line with what’s around.
Now that my two weeks have passed, I’ve shed a couple of kilos. Let’s see how I fare in the weeks to come.
One thing I am worried about is being in Manila after Easter… I’m surely going to have a hard time NOT eating what’s in the house in Laguna =) Well, everything in moderation… that would be the key. I hope I do fine. Wish me luck!

I thought I’d document our song choices as they evolve. I’ve created a playlist in my multiply page as well.
Keith Urban – Making Memories Of Us
James Blunt – Shine On
The Cure – Lovesong
Binocular – You
Jude – Everything I Own
Joe Cocker – Up Where We Belong
Phil Collins – A Groovy Kind Of Love
*Wonderful Tonight (untimed)
*When I See You Smile (untimed)
(instrumental) Canon
(instrumental) Looking Through the eyes of love
I’ve had the thought of making the music all-OPM… but it doesn’t work so well with the string ensemble. It’s a waste to not let them play the lovely foreign tunes as well.
But then, maybe if we were to make an all-OPM mixed CD, they’d have these songs:
Lea Salonga – With You I’m Born Again
Rey Valera – Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko
Rivermaya – Hinahanap-hanap Kita
South Border – Love Of My Life
Dimsum – Thank You For Your Love
True Faith – Wala Nang Hahanapin Pa
Parokya ni Edgar – Your Song
APO Hiking Society – When I Met You
Brownman Revival – Ikaw Lang Ang Aking Mahal
Francis M – Lab Song
Kitchie Nadal – Pag-ibig

On a bad day, I pray I am never in the vicinity of anything in this list…
Loud phone conversations.
Loud complaints about petrol prices.
Loud traffic.
…. Generally, just loud things.
Folks who are…
Know-it-alls and show-offs.
Snobs who don’t know they’re snobs.
Insensitive.
Self-catering.
Folks who…
Walk like a snail.
Walk like a snail in the middle of a sidewalk.
Gross out over food.
Rant incessantly unnecessarily.
Fish for compliments.
Other things…
Heavy breathing in normal situations.
Sweating.
Stale coffee breath.
Or just bad smells in general.
Sarcastic laughing or giggling.
Strangers coming too close for comfort.

While bored to my wits, I went into yet another google frenzy and found this site. I found it so funny I just had to share it. It would probably be of interest to some UP graduates, especially those from Computer Science (CS).
It is a little website made by some sad computer science student in UP (he’s probably somewhere writing code to save the world now). In the website, the author (Alec, from what I gather in his pages) outlines his experiences in each of his academic courses in bullets. He documented what he learned (if any) from the course, his professor/teacher and what he/she was like, and other things he experienced in his classes. At one point he says in one CS subject “walang lab, pero ewan ko kung bakit natuto akong mag-program dito”.
Math teachers he mentions are Dr Pizana, Dr Roque, Dr Alejandro (now Kazanidis), Prof Adorio, Cherry Ramos and Ajay Jorge =)

I found designer Coco Myles’ website, where she has a tool for designing your own dress. I played with it for a while and came up with the following:
A very simple dress design I can imagine for the bridesmaids. This is in pink. (the closese Coco had in her palette to rose)
In A-line skirt and sweetheart neckline, with some beadwork.

This is in wine color, with a pink sash (optional). Strapless, and straight long cut.

The same cut and color, with a longer sash and a tea skirt cut.

Sometime ago I blogged about a possible Eheads reunion. I was one of those kids wishing for a comeback or a reunion gig. Now it seems that it is not possible because all four of them has his own thing going on.
Ely has his Pupil, Raimond has Cambio and <S>andwich among others, Buddy is with THE Dawn and Marcus has Surfernando.
The most we could do (as what I personally did), get ALL their respective albums and make a playlist out of it! Well excepts for Buddy’s, all has an ‘Eheads Certified’ stamp on it.
Why ask for a reunion when we could get four times from the four of them playing separately. Tabachoi made his own playlist. Here’s mine:
