Month End

March 28th, 2008

All the while that we (Pen and me) are not blogging this past few weeks is because we are enjoying each other’s company here in Singapore. There, that’s our reason for online absence. Nothing beats IRL quality time. Well now since Pen is in the Philippines for a short vacation (not really a vacation), I have a short window of time to compose a new entry probably to close the month of March.

I got a mass email from the Pinoy WordPress community administrator reminding me to make the link love for the members. The Chuckie Dreyfuss started this community and is gaining momentum since it was first started. This has been an ongoing effort to promote Pinoy bloggers using WordPress platform – either the freely hosted one or the own-install version. Well, I finally did it. I copied and pasted the links to make the new page Pinoy WordPress Link Love. Thanks for all the incoming links from the members and I hope I can do my share to juice up your blog page ranks.

Pen will be back from the Philippines stopping a day here in Singapore before finally heading back to Sydney. We are not yet quite sure when we’ll meet again as we are trying very hard to minimize expenses of travelling. If there will be a cheap flight sometime this year, either I fly to Sydney or she goes back here in Singapore. We still don’t know yet.

There goes my short window of time. Going back to face the real world now.

My life?

Kinda sorta. Not so much, but most of it hehe. Not as miserable as it sounds, but Jorge Cham always cracks me up.

The Nines

March 16th, 2008

The NinesWhile Pen was coding her sideproject in their UNI for 2 straight nights, I watched another Ryan Reynolds film last night. I watched a relatively low-key film of his from last year -The Nines.

It is low-key in the sense that it didn’t create any fanfare in the box office or any promotions when it was shown. But it is touted as one of the best movies in 2007 that you didn’t watched or heard of. It also passed my radar and didn’t know of this film until I read that article. I’m glad that I was able to catch up and watched this film.

Why it’s Great: Although it’s hard to suggest this as I wasn’t too fond of it, I can’t help but include it because of how unique it is. Ryan Reynolds is outstanding as three different people in three almost unrelated plots. If you end up catching this, I’m certain you’ll find yourself drawn in to figuring out exactly what’s going on as well as searching for all of John August’s cartefully placed nuances. By the end you’ll be a changed person for experiencing The Nines.

True enough, the film is unique. It somehow asks the question of our existence.

Profound.

I literally have to google for answers after I watched the film. The director, John August, said that this is not a film where you ‘get it’ the moment the film ends. It begs discussion and questioning. If you are not into discussions after a film ends, don’t bother watching this. I still cannot comprehend the whole essence of the film. More googling around to know the message and meaning.

Ryan Reynolds was great in acting three characters in this movie. You can easily detach one character from another. It’s as if there were three actors acting the different roles.
Ryan Reynolds
He played a troubled actor, a television writer, and a videogame designer. Each character is different from another and Ryan Reynolds was able to do justice for the three roles. Another feather in the cap for Reynolds.

Do watch the film if you have time and energy to scrutinize the details. If you are not into these kinds of movies, no harm done if you don’t watch it.

Natalie Gauci

I was rooting for another contestant, Matt, at the time of Aussie Idol 2007. The other finalist, Natalie, won.

Here’s a video of her winning single.

Kinda catchy.

iPod owners be wary

March 14th, 2008

Be careful when you cross the street! With those earbuds blasting music into your poor ears you’re more likely to get in trouble. Apart from that, wearing the unmistakable white earphone trademark that is the iPod (or its other hybrids) is screaming “Steal me!”

Stating the obvious perhaps. But more often than not, a news article would reinforce the issue.

Earth Hour 2008

March 13th, 2008

Last year was the Earth hour initiative here in Sydney. I was able to turn off my energy consumption at that time. I’ll try to inculcate the same in Manila this time.

There is a video in the homepage for Earth Hour 2008: http://www.smh.com.au/earthhour/2008/
Please watch, disseminate and participate.

Nutrition articles

March 12th, 2008

Found a series of articles that are a good read for the trying-to-be-health-savvy.

I’ll do some posts on reactions to some articles as I go along reading them.

Let’s get healthy!

Today’s menu.

March 11th, 2008

Today I thought I’d try a different approach to food, and only eat when I’m really hungry. I remember my father telling me to treat food as medicine. Listen to your body, and don’t overindulge.

8 a.m. Weet-bix biscuits and lactose-free milk. (2 biscuits and half a cup of milk) Weet-bix is an australian brand of cereal that consists of flaky rectangular biscuits that are made out of whole wheat grain. Lactose-free milk pretty much tastes like regular milk, which is good coz I love milk!!

10 a.m. 1 Yellow Nectarine. A nectarine is a fruit from the peach family. Like the peach, it is like a soft apple.

12 nn Corn on the cob. I love corn =)

12.35 p.m. Green salad: Rocket leaves, coral cabbage, spinach, tuna, olive oil and a little cheese. I was not a fan of rocket for the longest time. But when I ate it hungrily today, it tasted so good!

5.35 p.m Strawberries. Yum.

I’m feeling pretty light and perky. It’s still the late afternoon, so I might still eat a salad tonight.

God of War for PSP

March 11th, 2008

It’s been a long time that I am really into playing my PSP. I have been playing Puzzle Quest since forever. Then I tried Patapon a week before God of War is to be released and when I got a copy of God of War, Patapon was pushed back again. (Patapon is a good game though. I’ll play it again once I get tired of Kratos).

Been playing two straight nights before I go to bed.

These are my screenshots. Notice Patapon and Puzzle Quest in the background

Hot baths and warm beverages

March 10th, 2008

I just got out of a lovely hot bath. My skin still tingles, and relaxation has just upped several notches… Aaaaaah I just gotta rave about hot water. I loooooove hot showers and hot baths. Warm beverages; chai latte, cappuccinos, hot coco …

A perfect day has such: a perfect cup of warm latte, a leisurely walk, a chat under a tree, a moment of silence, a warm bath, and a lovely long sleep…
