Church and Reception. Done.

February 6th, 2008

I was with my mom and Pen’s mom and dad yesterday at Sto. Nino de Cebu, Stonecrest and Southwoods Golf and Country Club. We did the preliminary ocular of the places but ended up (well essentially) booking the church and the country club.

Pen already mentioned that the church is supposed to be booked only two months in advance, but since her mom knows everyone in the church, we are booked on the 27th of December. We didn’t even gave money upfront. I’ll try to post some pictures when I have time to upload (dial up sucks!). A little bit of concern is that the church’s exterior is not yet done. We are however assured that by December, everything is in order. My mom was awestruck when we saw the altar. It was so nice. She loved it so much that she insisted that we take our vows there.

Southwoods was surprisingly good! It is amazingly large and can easily fit around 200-300 guests! But sadly, we have to trim down the guest list hopefully down to 150 head count. As much as we would like every acquaintance to come, we cannot accommodate all of you.

Billy Elliot

February 4th, 2008

Heard of Billy Elliot? He is a boy in the story of the same title that is now both in a film and a stage production. Billy’s story involves an unconventional story about a boy who dances ballet, and as once can imagine, goes through a hellish time with his father and brother coz of his ‘talent’. Some months ago, the media was all up and about when Billy Elliot, which is from the UK, came to Sydney for a run of auditions to find boys who will play the role in the stage adaptation of the story.

Last night Billy Elliot was on TV, following the premiere of Australia’s own So You Think You Can Dance. There weren’t any surprises in the story, coz it unfolded the way you’d expect it to. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot.

The film was like a cross between “Footloose” and “Oliver!”. Though watching actor Jamie Bell (Billy) tapdance was more refreshing and fun, and I thought it was a pity there was so actually very few dancing scenes. I imagine if this was for stage, there would be much more dancing, and that would be more enjoyable.

The smell of Easter

February 3rd, 2008

The grocery shelves have cleared of christmas matter, and have been replaced by chocolate bunnies and eggs. In the collage I just slipped in balloons from Ajay’s birthday =)

So the Royal Easter Show is coming in some weeks, and maybe I’ll do a drop-by this time.

Ryan Reynolds.

February 2nd, 2008

bergAjay got me back to watching the 90s TV series “Two Guys and a Girl”, and hence reminded me about Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor who played ‘Berg’ in the show. Since I finished watching the 3 seasons the past week, I looked him up wondering what this actor is up to at the present time. I read somewhere he’s in talks to play The Flash… anyone confirm this?

Anyhow, I also came across some writing from Reynolds. A nice, funny piece of light reading… enjoy!

First Movement in the Philippines

February 1st, 2008

As I am going back to the Philippines from Feb 2-10, I have been tasked to do an ocular of our chosen churches and reception places. This is officially the first ‘move’ we are doing for the wedding. Pen’s mom will accompany me to those places. I hope to tag along my mom too.

Meeting Chito Vicena will be tricky when I’m in the Philippines. I may not be able to see him in person but hopefully be able to talk with him on the phone. But we’ll see, if I can manage to squeeze in time one day, the meeting will push through.

Getting accustomed to food.

February 1st, 2008

I thought about posting some of my usual nonsense about food when I had a 6dollar lunch today. It consisted of a muffin, poppy seeds and apricot, really yummy =) and an juice drink (banana + mango). I was so happy with it that I thought, how am I surviving on such a small lunch, when I ate heaps of food in UP, morning noon and night?

Since 3 years ago, my diet has been dynamically evolving. And not in a very haphazard manner too. My father told me once that it isn’t good to be too picky with food. Also that, wherever you go, it is a good practice to get your tongue accustomed to the taste of the place you are in, so you don’t get miserable with missing food you are accustomed to.

This is actually good advice now that I think of it. Though here in Sydney, it’s not too bad to get accustomed with food since you have lots of choices anyway. Most of the time you can find what you want or crave, and if it gets tricky you can always improvise with local vegetables to whip up a Filipino dish.

I wanted to share how it has been for me these couple of years. I usually adjust my food habits to the people around me, as I can eat almost anything anyway. So I went through several phases now.
