Singapore Zoo

We haven’t shared the Singapore Zoo experience we had here. I uploaded the photos sometime last month I think but Pen procrastinated as usual (tee-hee).
So, here are some pics we wanted to share (hopefully Pen will add some comments and side remarks on this entry).
The Singapore Zoo!

There are basically 3 animal park here in Singapore - Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari and the Singapore Zoo. Yeah, we went to all three - on different days. One cannot complete the three zoos in just one deal.
Obviously, Jurong Bird Park is exclusive for birds, Night Safari is for the nocturnal animals and the Singapore Zoo is for all others that doesn’t fit the first two. It’s all good nonetheless but Pen and I ranked it the last among the three.
There’s a tram ride within the zoo itself but we felt like walking the whole day. There were trinkles of rain but not really pouring down.

We thought the tram ride is a bit restricting as you cannot stop for a long time to take pictures. With our new Canon 350D, everything was worth taking pictures!
One highlight of the zoo is the white tigers from some far-away land. I’m guessing they are from Africa. Complete information is provided in the viewing area, I just didn’t took down notes.

Unlike in Manila Zoo where the tigers/lions are kept in a really “safe” viewing area (read: very very far away), here in Singapore, they are just a couple of meters away! The only thing separating people from the tigers is about a 6-meter wide of “canal” and the railing which are about waist-high. If the tigers exercise everyday they may be able to one day jump towards the people. That may not happen as they are very lazy and sleeps all day.

I forgot what they are called but they were noisy and foul smelling.

Warthog. Pumbaa from Lion King! Para lang palang baboy-ramo.

Iguana. Reptiles such as this are enclosed in glass viewing room. Funny, I can’t recall if we saw snakes in the zoo. I don’t have any snake picture.

This reptile on the other hand is free to roam. Nobody cares for the lonely turtle.

Monkeys! Now there are a lot of monkeys in the zoo. Different shapes, sizes colors. They even have the monkeys with long noses.

Monkey just walking around.

Monkey in a tree. I just realized there were no spitting monkey here, that’s probably because it’s against Singapore law to spit anywhere. Hahaha

Monkey in action. Pen and I were watching how graceful these monkeys move from tree to tree. They use all their limbs (and tail!) to hang onto a branch.

Baboons! There were lots of baboons. They were so many that it became disgusting the longer you observe them. What’s up with their red asses? Ewww. I shiver just by remembering some baboons who has scabs.

We’ll just move on to the next set of mamalia and leave the monkeys behind.
Navigating through the zoo is bit of a challenge. You need to plan out your path so you can see all the zoo has to offer.
Here’s me. Kunwari may tinuturo. When I pointed out to nothingness so Pen can take a picture or me “in action”, people behind me started gawking and trying to see what I was pointing at. Haha.

Pen held the map here in the zoo. I was the photographer for the day so she was the navigator. You can see the plastic bag - it holds our baon for the day. Pinoy na pinoy! Hehe

Okay, so we ended up seeing the other wildlife beginning with some elephants. There were actually three of them, the other one was taking a dump (no kidding!). I have a picture of that one doing his thing but it’s too gross to post here. Haha

Here is the graceful giraffe. I loved taking pictures of the giraffe as I can perfectly fit her in my lens. She’s just there eating by herself. Unlike the other animals that are hard to take pictures.

Lions. Damn lazy lions. Just chillin’ down and no movement whatsoever.

Meerkat! This is Timon from Lion King. This one is hilarious. Whenever Pen makes a funny sound, the stand up straight and look for the sound.

I kept telling Pen to do it again so I’ll have a good shot. And voila, they were looking at me! Well, almost at me.

Zebras. Feeding time for the zebras. Everyone is snooping down to eat their hay. Puro pwet tuloy nakuhanan ng picture.

Guess what animal…

Rhino! Two big asses of rhinos.

Fox! Another lazy animal in the zoo. I remembered Firefox’s logo because the color is exactly the same! And even the way it sleeps, it is crouched like that of the Firefox’s logo.

Another attraction in the zoo is the Polar Bear!

It was fun and sad to see a polar bear for the first time. It really has to cool itself in the pool all the time otherwise it might die from the heat here in Singapore. It just stayed in the water all the time and cooling himself.

That’s probably it. No sense of showing all pictures. It’s not the same unless you are there to see all those animals.
Pen reflecting shot. I like the bokeh here.

ngaun ko lang nakita yung totoong itsura nina timon and pumbaa, hehehe!
