Audio: Pupil - Wildlife

AJ Jorge September 28th, 2007

I just got hold of Pupil’s sophomore album - Wildlife.

Pupil - Wildlife

It’s currently playing in my iPod as I write this entry. Cannot give a review about it yet as this is just her maiden voyage in my ears so to speak. No matter how much I try to distinguish the sound from the Eheads of yesteryears, I can’t help but think that I am still hearing the heart and soul of Eheads. No disrespect meant for Pupil members - Yan Yuzon, Dok Sergio and their new drummer Wendell Garcia. It’s just that Ely Buendia trademarked a certain pitch and sound in my ears.

Hearing the sound fragments of Eheads’ members in their respective different albums, how I wish that they’ll do an encore of sorts. Fans of Eheads like me will have to cope what we have now. I’m just glad that the fab3 (Marcus is busy surfing in La Union last I heard) are still out there in the music scene and giving fans their money’s worth.

From what i’ve heard, Marcus is again playing in a band, it’s called Markus Hi-way, I remember he’s been playing quite alot lately. I actually like Pupil compared to Mongols (same band but with Jerome Velasco). I still consider Mongols as the first band but the band honed their skills more when they changed their name to Pupil so though it’s a debut for the band, it sounded miles better than Mongols.

‘Sala’ track has been playing repeatedly in my iPod. It is the band’s carrier single and boy it sure is catchy and very much radio friendly.

galing ng falsetto ni ely sa chorus:
    Kinabukasan nakasalalay sa iyong kamay

I think Wildlife is much much much better than Beautiful Machine. They sounded so strong here and I think they already mastered their own sound.

Once you accept that Ely have his own band and there will be no Eheads no more and stop comparing his Eheads sound to his Pupil sound, thats when you will realize that Pupil is really one of a very few kick-ass band in Phils. right now.

    Rock on!

Very nice album! I never hesitated buying their sophomore album. I hope more people will listen to this kind of music and not just always R’NB.
