Ralph Fiennes

Fiennes was reluctant to take the role of Lord Volemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). In a television interview on AMC’s “Sunday Morning Shootout” (2003) (November 20, 2005), he claimed to have been unimpressed with the previous three Harry Potter films. Fiennes was apparently nonplussed at the idea of appearing in the fourth film of a series and stated that he had “never bought into [the] world” of Harry Potter. Family members urged him to take the role while other friends counseled against it. He eventually changed his mind after Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell showed Fiennes preproduction conceptions of what the character of Voldemort might look like: “The little kid in me that likes to dress up and be bad went ‘Yeah! I want to do it!’”.

There is something about this man that is uber fascinating. His presence onscreen captivates, whether it’s a role of good guy or bad guy…
He plays Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. The little snippet I have on the top of this post is quite funny. I was surprised to hear he took on the role.
This photo was just too good to resist:

Fiennes plays much less applauded roles as Chris Marshall in Maid in Manhattan (2002), Rameses’ voice in The Prince of Egypt (1998), and John Steed in The Avengers (1998). I must admit, I still enjoyed these movies despite their bad reviews. And well, it was plain and clear why.
Let’s have a look at some of his roles in films I really recommend seeing:
Justin Quayle in The Constant Gardener (2005) with Rachel Weisz

Francis Dolarhyde in Red Dragon (2002) with Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton

Count Laszlo de Almasy in The English Patient (1996) with Kristin Scott Thomas

Charles Van Doren in Quiz Show (1994) with John Turturro and Robert Morrow

Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List (1993) with Liam Neeson and Ben Kingsley

A bit cheesy but nonetheless brilliant performances as Maurice Bendrix in The End of the Affair (1999) and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights (1992).
It’s the English blood… royal blood at that. I did not know until recently he is a distant cousin of HRH The Prince of Wales! Now that is pedigree for you.
hindi ko pa napanuod yung red dragon. gusto ko panuorin yun.
