20 Questions

May 31st, 2007

Pasalubong ni manager sa amin galing US.

20 Questions Game. She gave each one of us this amusing game.
20 Questions

The concept of the game is you have to think an object and it will guess that object by asking you 20 questions answerable only by Yes, No, Sometimes, Unknown.

Sa Eat Bulaga, eto yung Pinoy Henyo na contest. Dun nga lang, may time limit at unlimited ang questions. Dito sa game, unlimited time pero 20 Questions lang.

20 Questions

It’s not perfect though. Sometimes it can’t guess the object. My housemate laughed when he was thinking of monkey and the device guessed chimpanzee in the end. O di ba, specific pa!

I haven’t really spent time playing with it, I still have my PSP that I play every night. :D

Grocery Day

May 31st, 2007

I’m beginning to like grocerying here in Singapore. After all, I have to feed myself and take care of my stomach. Although I’m still in the instant-cook-sections most of the time, little by little, I get to expose myself to the real deal. (Gasp! I have to cook real food sooner or later!)

Haven’t bought raw meat or chicken yet. I only buy those marinated and breaded chickens that just need some frying and presto, I have dinner. Yeah, I only have to worry about my dinner because I eat lunch at the office – I mean, I buy lunch at the office. When I come home, I’ll just whip up whatever I have in my food cabinet to satisfy my growling stomach.

On the average, I go to FairPrice (they are almost in every mall) once a week. A second trip in a week doesn’t hurt at all because it’s along the way when I travel home.

Today, I went to Tampines Mall and bought some goodies. It was my first time there so I was a bit disoriented where to look. Anyhow, here is what I bought:

Konti lang muna para may excuse na bumalik dun sa mall. Hehe.

South Park, Simpsons and 24

May 26th, 2007

Coolness.

In a span of one month, 24 has been parodied by 2 famous cartoon shows.

SouthPark:
South Park 24

and Simpsons
Simpsons 24

I liked the SouthPark episode better than Simpsons’. Though Kiefer Sutherland and Mary Lynn Rajskub guest stars in Simpsons as Jack and Chloe (their 24 characters), South Park has a better parody. I especially liked the times when Cartman says “Damn it!” ala Jack Bauer.

As an additional treat, when South Park aired their episode (which has something to do with a nuke bomb hidden in Hillary’s snatch), 24 producers actually gave Matt Parker and Trey Stone – creators of Southpark – a real prop nuke suitcase bomb.

snuke

If you want to watch the two episodes, search Snuke for Southpark’s episode while Simpsons’ is season 18 episode 21.

Maxtor 320gb External HDD

May 26th, 2007

I should have blogged this last week but I haven’t got time to sit down and blog unlike before.

My first gadget bought here in Singapore. :D

A Maxtor 320gb External HDD!
320gb

Actually, this is not the first one. Last time I was here, I bought Pen a 2GB Creative Zen MP3 player. But this Maxtor is the first one for me.

Special thanks to Cia for sharing me her Dad’s membership number so I get the Member’s price and not the usual price. If not for her, I would have paid additional S$20 for the hard disk.
Price

I felt that I badly needed to buy one as my hard drive space in my office issued laptop is slowly filling up. Now that we have broadband access in the condo, I can resume to get my fix (downloading what else?!). On top of that, my office mates are sharing their own divx movies and animes. Last week, I copied Books 1 & 2 of Avatar. I’m watching it and so far enjoying the story.

320gb Harddisk

And surprise, surprise. My housemate got a free LG dvd component for his cable subscription. The good thing is, the component supports divx formats and has it’s own usb slot! Imagine the smile on my face when I saw that. We now have our own movie server at home and a video on demand service! Hahaha.
LG component

I made a quick reformat on the 320gb hdd though. The LG component usb slot only supports FAT16 and FAT32 formatting. Small price to pay for the happiness it will bring.

Linkin Park: Minutes to Midnight

May 26th, 2007

Been listening to Linkin Park’s newest album – Minutes to Midnight for a week now.

Minutes to Midnight

I can’t shrug off the fact that the album is relatively tame compared to their first two albums. I miss Chester’s ear popping shouts and loud vocals. Mike Shinoda’s rap is more relaxed and pleasant. Not that I’m dissing the album. It’s just that it’s not the Linkin Park trademark that I know.

There are mixed reactions to this album. Some like it while others completely trash it. I don’t complain though. Out of the 12 tracks, I probably like 7 or 8 songs. Unlike in the previous albums where I can’t get enough of their songs and I still want more.

I think I may have to listen more to grasp all there is to it in this album.

Special mention to the tracks that I like:
Bleed It Out – Chester nails this one. Chester sings the chorus and Mike raps the rest. Great song. I hope this will be their next single. I bleed it out digging deeper just to throw it away…

What I’ve Done – Linkin Park summarizes their transformation from the loud punk rock band from before to a pleasant sounding one. This track is their carrier single.

Joe (Hahn) came up to Mike and me and asked us to take the whole idea of Minutes to Midnight and apply that to how the band has changed. So, in a way, it’s us saying goodbye to how we used to be…The lyrics in the first verse are ‘In this farewell, there’s no blood, there’s no alibi,’ and right away, you’ll notice that the band sounds different: The drums are much more raw, the guitars are more raw and the vocals aren’t tripled. It’s just us out there … and that’s how Rick wanted it. – Chester Bennington, March 2007

Shadow of the Day – great lyrics and Mike and Chester yet again blends great.

I’m tired to nitpick the whole album. The above three tracks are those songs when I turn the iPod’s volume up and completely enjoy listening to them.

Needless to say, Minutes to Midnight is a really different Linkin Park sound. You will either hate it or embrace the new phase of Linkin Park.

Federer Sampras Exhibition Match

May 26th, 2007

I’m not a tennis fan per se, but I do know w ho’s who in the tennis world. Surprisingly, 3 of my current office mates are tennis fanatics so I get to be updated in the current news.

Just last Friday, one of my office mate told us that there will be a Federer-Sampras exhibition match sometime in November. To top it all, it will take place in Malaysia! Imagine this once in a lifetime oppurtunity and the chance that they will be able to watch it. I told them, if I could go with them, I would. I’d like to see a history in the making match.

From FoxSports:

Former world No. 1 Pete Sampras will take on top-ranked Roger Federer for three exhibition matches throughout Asia in November.

Fourteen-time Grand Slam winner Sampras, who retired in 2002, will play Federer in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 22, at the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau on Nov. 24 and at a third location to be determined on Nov. 20, organizers said Wednesday.

The idea was brought about when Federer visited Sampras in LA for a friendly game. The two probably liked playing with each other so they made the bold plan.

From BBC Sports:

World number one Roger Federer has revealed that he visited Pete Sampras in Los Angeles recently and practised with the seven-time Wimbledon champion.

Sampras retired in 2002 but Federer admitted: “Surprisingly he was very good, but not good enough to beat me!”

This is one of those things that you should never let opportunity slip by.

Ballota Park

A screen capture from Google Earth on where I am staying here in Singapore. The whole compound is called Ballota Park. You can see in the middle part that we have a swimming pool and two tennis courts in the lower left portion. Haven’t swam in the pool yet but would definitely try it out in the near future.

As promised, first batch of pictures courtesy of the new k610i phone I have so pardon the not so nice picture quality. The above image is one of the many bus stops here in Singapore. I don’t know exactly where that stop is, I just snapped a shot when I rode the cab.

Let me list

May 14th, 2007

  • Friday, 11th of May, cousin Nandy and me went to Hooters Singapore. Drank 4 bottles of Corona beer with a twist while comparing Hooter babes in US with the ones here. (You know what comparison I mean!). Nandy was in his usual dress down version attire. Shorts, slippers and tshirt inside a bar. Beat that.
  • Hooters

  • After drowning the Corona’s we went walking from Clark Quay to Raffles Place. Night breeze was okay and walking was fine.
  • Went to first Filipino mass last yesterday with Nandy, Kirby and tita.
  • Bought my first grocery items. Spent around S$57. That’s relatively cheap as I bought so many items. Foods will probably last for 2wks.
  • Bought mattress, bed frame, bedside table, cute stool, coffee table for the new condo. Spent around S$300. Again, it’s cheap as we bought the furnishings from a second hand thrift shop. But the items are in superior condition! Save for the mattress that I sprayed with Lysol (I think I halved the Lysol for the mattress itself!)
  • Bought s-video and AV cables so we could connect the laptop to the brand spanking new 32″ LCD TV that my housemate bought. We could now watch divx shows in the huge TV. Now I wish I brought with me Pen’s PS2.
  • Finally unpacked my clothes from my luggage and arranged them in my closet. Clothes are still wrinkled and I may have to iron them before wearing.
  • Bought new phone – Sony Ericsson k610i. Now I have a portable camera with me. That’s my main purpose for buying one. Besides, the promo offer is too good to pass. S$25 monthly fee for two years and the phone is free. So essentially, I did not pay anything but I get to have a new phone with me.
  • k610i

  • I need to buy a data cable for my phone so that I can transfer pictures from phone to PC. Or I can buy a blue tooth dongle instead.

Pictures will follow. I promise.
