Man and music, anong connection?

Audio Players
Turntables, 8-trac tapes… what else was there? I am not familiar with every single kind of music media that came out in history, since all I have from memory are those stacks of “plaka” in my dad’s dusty collection, as well as those LARGE magnetic cartridges, if I may call them that. As a little girl we had this amazing radio and cassete player in one that had these blinking lights na pumapalo tuwing may tumutugtog. Fancy for a five-year old to see eh? Of course! Anything with blinking lights at that time would amaze me. What’s more fascinating is that exact player/cassette I’m talking about still exists and works to this day!
What our family never owned was a karaoke. Machine, player or whatnot. We never needed one, since most gatherings would occur elsewhere, and a karaoke would always be present for big Pinoy occasions.
But, as a makeshift one to satisfy us kids, we had a microphone to connect to that same radio/cassette! And a stack of minus-one cassettes to go along with it. Hah! Had my share of rehearsals for Ryan Cayabyab’s try-outs in that same cassette player!
Ok enough about that…
Portable Music
Nagsimula ang lahat sa SONY “walkman”. Cassette audio tapes were the things to have back in the day. Ano nga ba ang una kong tapes? Hmm.Eto yung mga ako ang bumili, high school pa ako nyan: Poison, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Phantom of the Opera [songs from the musical], Miss Saigon [songs from the musical].
Napaghahalataan ang edad ano? Then the CD player came out. My first CD player I got college na ko. Mga nauna kong binili naalala ko, purchased them within weeks of each other: the Corrs [di pa sila sikat!], Toto [There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever dooooooo...], Wet Wet Wet [gasgas na gasgas ito, sobra].
Lumabas din yung miniDisc, about that same time na may LaserDiscs na pinapa-renta sa video stores. Parehong lumagapak. Pero eto na tayo ngayon, the age of iPods. Nagkaron ng transition mula sa expensive CDs to digital format especially those times Napster came out and just changed things. Alas, I can still remember those painful downloads that you just HAD to wait for each song download to finish kasi walang RESUME feature. Syempre nariyan ang trusty iTunes that is as easy as paying a few quid for a song.
my first cassette: YO! by FrancisM
first audio cd: Nirvana Unplugged.
I use Sennheiser earphones.
sabi nga ni pen, bili daw ako nung senn-something earphones
my first casette: ultra-electro-magnetic-top (tama ba?) ng Eraserheads.
my first audio cd: burugudunstuystunstugudunstuy ng Parokya ni Edgar.
