Text speak is for cellphones
AJ Jorge September 25th, 2006
I can never understand why people are using txt spk in internet forums/message boards and even in instant messages.
Nagpipintig talaga ang tenga ko kapag may nag-pop sa akin na officemate na “hi der, i hav a question, r u bc?”. Kapag di ko sinagot, mangungulit pa na “r u der?”
Anak ng pating. Nagpapa-cute ka ba o ano?
Gusto ko laging sagutin na, “Pindot system na nga lang ang alam mo sa keyboard, gagawin mo pang keypad ng cellphone. Itaas mo naman ang kaalaman mo day.”
I mean, I for one am having a hard time if I will adapt the txt spk here in the keyboard. I have to consciously think of the txt shortcuts to create my phrase. Unlike when I am typing the whole words with my nine fingers (yes, I do know how to type properly. Nine fingers because my left thumb is not doing anything).
Just for the sake of sarcasm, everytime I get an IM from officemates using txt spks, I reply with complete sentences and not phrases. I even capitalize the first letters of my sentences (which I normally neglect).
Tapos babanatan ka ng “mashadong formal k nmn.” Sa isipan ko, “kasi bobo’t tanga ka. Alamin mo na rin kung pano gumawa ng u na may dalawang tuldok sa taas gaya nito ü. Alt+0252 lang yun.”
This is probably one reason why Filipinos are generally unintelligent (I would have said stupid or dumb but I take it back). Trying to make a fashion out of something brought about by laziness. It’s not a trend. It’s not a fashion. It’s not even a way of life for crying out loud. It’s just to compress the messages going to and from your cellphones.
And for the record, I only encounter these kinds of IMs in the office with female office mates. Male dudes usually take time to type out their message. Pa-cute lang ba talaga ng mga babae ito?

Naku, di lang babae, kung makita mo mga formal theme na “checkables” (naks, word ba yan hehe) ng nanay ko, txtspeak!!? Pambihira. Lagapak sila. Eto ngang pananalita kong Taglish mali na eh. Wag gayahin! Di kasi ako marunong managalog ng tuwid. Ampangit talaga hehehehe.
I get you man, pet peeve na pet peeve ah.
Ako naman, yung boss ko — Prez instead of pres, Coz instead of cause aaaarrrgggh!!! ‘Letz talk about the prez becoz’….. hay hay. Ayoko po non.
It’s not just women. You should try playing local online games, text speak is the main language tapos taga-lish pa.
I kinda agree with the part that most Filipinos are becoming unintelligent because of text speak. Some mistaken LOL – Laughing Out Loud from ULOL.
waz d prob dud? hehehe. nakakabobo pa nga ang ganun e. most of the time i pause to rethink my spelling. I hope kids these days grow up with straight vocabulary. Baka yung mga common words lahat mali ang spelling.
teka, are you saying women are maaarte o puro pacute???
Haay, sad to say, most “girls” are “pa-cute”.
Beyond that, it’s just… weird. Pinoys must be told that it isn’t “cute” to use text speak unnecessarily. Isang aspeto ito ng tuluy-tuloy na pagguho ng nga kultura natin. Sorry to say pero “nakakabobo” ito.
Of course, not all of us feel this way.If you don’t not agree with me (or Ajay) then turn on your English dict, it’s easier to text
Gastos nga lang sa space. But it’ll teach you to be concise and brief. Ako napilitan dito kasi puro Ingles ka-text ko hehehe.
so it’s not girls/women in general, it’s the text-generation.
age group of 15-25 you think? (20yo lang lalagay ko kaso naisip ko na 25 years old na yung tinutukoy kong officemate na babae).
oist, 25 years old ako
Shucks kasama pala ako dun… hehe
Manood ka nalang ng Akeelah and the Bee to divert your emotions hehe. Or you can ask her to watch it
hi there!
guilty naman ako dito. pero di naman ako over sa paggamit ng shortcuts.
naalala ko tuloy yung previous chats, medyo nahirapan ako sa pag-intindi. my friend kept using “u” instead of “ka” or “mo” — eto yung sentence nya… “dhil wla n u ngawa dhil kmi lgi kausap u” hehehe, hindi ba kaloka?
anyway, share ko lang.
pansin nyo, medyo buo na spelling and sentences ko… baka kasi maasar si AJ sa pagbasa. Peace!
