Day three in Sydney.

September 8th, 2006

The first day in a strange place can be daunting. I’m sure it’s like that for a lot of people on their first day at school, on starting a new job or in a different house. I’ve felt it many times before, but this is the mother of all those things. But fortunately I realize that there is a mechanism inside me that can block out fear and anxiety. I know thgey’re there but I just choose to ignore them. What is hard to ignore is homesickness though. It doesn’t sound too difficult if you are at least with another person from home.

Pictures would have to wait for now, as I’ve taken just a few. I’ve been lugging around a lot of paperwork in Ajay’s famous backpack and it’s difficult to stop just to take a photo.

Sydney is lovely. From where I stay when you look out the window you can see Coogee beach, a part of the Pacific Ocean. The waves are huge! I wouldn’t mind going to the beaches when I could but it has been raining a bit the past 2 days. The day I arrived I was told that time that the weather was fantastic. And it was. Like my father said, “balmy”. Cool to the feel with the sun shining. But the next day it rained hard in the early morning. It’s crazy how you can’t really use your umbrella when it’s raining coz the wind was blowing so hard yesterday. So it was really cold yesterday. It’s a bit better today though.

I’ve met quite a number of people already. The team I’ll be working with involves 6 people + me. Two of them are senior to me in some way. The others are undergraduate students. They’re all really nice.

I don’t have much time to stay online right now so I guess that’ll be it for now. TTOW! hehe.

I call Ajay’s backpack famous, since it’s famous to me. He hasn’t let go of it since he bought it years ago ’til now. I had to beg him to part with it so I can take a little something that smells like him to Au. Hehe.

Surfing, exactly. I come across a few dudes carrying surfboards on my way to school. It’s crazy to be in the waters these days though bcoz it’s really freezing! My fingers are numb when I walk so I carry around my Baguio knitted gloves for such instances. They’re no good though if they get wet by the rain.

Yes I have a foldable umbrella. I should get a bigger one though.

@amor: yes I received your message. Sorry I didn’t reply because I had no idea who it was, I was using a different phone with no directory yet :)
