Purpleblabber.

September 28th, 2006

22 degrees C and sunny. I love balmy weather.

I’ve been catching up a bit on Aussie TV and it’s helping a lot to get used to their twang. I am probably the only other person in our house who can laugh at their jokes aside from the Brazilian who can speak and understand English perfectly. It’s interesting to be living with people from all over, though I bet it could get tiring after a while having to deal with their fumbling English. Yesterday, Miriam from Italy arrived. From being predominantly German my housemates have now become mostly Italian. No problemo.

I hear there is a storm, Milenyo, in Manila right now. I hope all is well. I’ll be giving the folks a ring in a little while.

Finally, I have my laptop working with ADSL here at the house. :) So I am free to chat online anytime when I’m home too!

TV Show Overload

Sooner or later, TV will make your life a mess.

PvP on TV series

A good mess at that.

Thank god for bittorrent.

More such comic strips here.

The First Philippine Blogcon

September 26th, 2006

Truth be told, I would have not attended the blogcon if it weren’t for the chance to meet up the Peyups folks from way back. Karl and Mimi were there, Markku had a grand entrance for arriving late and I finally met Kiven the overlord of the infamous Sex and Intimacy thread in Peyups’ messageboards.

The event was a successful one. With Globe Innove backing up the event, we had free foods and drinks. There were about 50 or so bloggers that came. I didn’t bother to meet everyone as I’m pretty sure I will not remember them again anyway. I just huddled up with the people in my table and swap interesting stories (much of which was how to make money out of all this blogging brouhaha).

The people that made this event possible were very generous on how to make a successful blog. They shared their paths to success and slowly I am integrating them in the site. The most helpful one was from the SEO (search engine optimization) god himself Marc Macalua who taught how to optimize blogs using WordPress engine (sorry na lang sa ibang engines. hehe).

All in all it was a great experience. Looking forward to the next Conference.

Oh, I even won a 256mb flashdisk from the raffle we had. :D

Text speak is for cellphones

September 25th, 2006

I can never understand why people are using txt spk in internet forums/message boards and even in instant messages.

I mean, I for one am having a hard time if I will adapt the txt spk here in the keyboard. I have to consciously think of the txt shortcuts to create my phrase. Unlike when I am typing the whole words with my nine fingers (yes, I do know how to type properly. Nine fingers because my left thumb is not doing anything).

Just for the sake of sarcasm, everytime I get an IM from officemates using txt spks, I reply with complete sentences and not phrases. I even capitalize the first letters of my sentences (which I normally neglect).

This is probably one reason why Filipinos are generally unintelligent (I would have said stupid or dumb but I take it back). Trying to make a fashion out of something brought about by laziness. It’s not a trend. It’s not a fashion. It’s not even a way of life for crying out loud. It’s just to compress the messages going to and from your cellphones.

And for the record, I only encounter these kinds of IMs in the office with female office mates. Male dudes usually take time to type out their message.

Finally, my own DivX player

September 22nd, 2006

Pioneer 393-S

At looong last, I have my own DivX/Xvid player. Now I don’t have to convert the videos I download. I can enjoy the TV series infront of a TV not on the pc monitor. I can watch the tons of animes we collected during our stay in UP. I can watch American Choppers, Top Gear, National Geographic Documentaries, BBC Documentaries at home lying down on the sofa. Not to mention Prison Break, House, Lost, Smallville, Justice and other TV shows currently being shown in the US.

Marami-raming puyatan ‘to. Kailangang maipila na ang mga panonoorin ko.

Sunny day, cheese and kiwi, Bondi dinner.

September 22nd, 2006

SYDNEY: 30degreesC! Sarap siguro mag-beach today. The other time we went di ko talaga kinaya. Maski na maaraw, freezer cold ang tubig!

Kahapon nag-”mini-party” itong team namin. Ang sabi nila ay may pagkain kaya nagdala ako ng cake (topped with kiwi, strawberries, mango and peaches… sarap!). By food pala they meant biscuits, crackers, cheese and champagne. My cake was a bit over the top! hehe.

MMmmmmmmm. Natapos kami kumain 10pm na yata. Andami kasi ng serving! Carlota, the new girl from Italy, ate soooo much food it was unbelievable. Tapos nung kinukuha ng waitress yung almost empty plate ng mud cake sabi nya “No no no no!” sisimutin pa kasi nya.

Oh and I have an Australian mobile number now, please save it in your books. I’ll email it soon.

Bookworm

September 20th, 2006

Since Pen is currently in Sydney, I have more time to read my pocketbooks. I actually bought a bunch of books from Booksale that are still to be read not to mention the backlog of books I have at home.

Surely You're Joking Mr. FeynmannSurely You’re Joking Mr. Feymann.
This is not a novel. This is a hilarious insight of the life of a great physicist and Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynmann. The book is full of anecdotes of the colorful life of Feynmann. The book aptly describes him as a “curious character”. He tried so many things in his life outside physics and even excelled in some of it. The book is all worth it. I have finished it some years back and read 3 or 4 anecdotes of him every night – pampatulog ko.

Field trip; bagong roomie; malaking lamok

September 19th, 2006

27C today. Sarap! I love the sun.
