August 31st, 2006

We extend our sympathies to our friend Don who lost her sister recently. We are praying for you and your family through this tough time.

Pre-toodle-oo.

Wow, after vowing to blog more often, it looks like the most I can do is a bi-monthly post. I suppose I still have a few more days left for my goodbyes, so I won’t do that just yet. I’ve been trying to pack my stuff for days now… it is torture. I tell ya, it’s ridiculous to fit idiosyncrasies into a bag for a long trip.

Have I mentioned? Of course I haven’t hehe. Our dog gave birth to a litter last Friday. The puppies are now over a week old, and will be needing adopting homes in the next 5 weeks. I’ll put up pictures soon.

SPIT at Mag:Net Bar

August 27th, 2006

Last Thursday, we watched SPIT performed at Mag:Net Bar in Katipunan. It was the 3rd time Pen and I watched their show. As expected, the whole show was a riot. They were complete too! It was sort of a send-off show for one of their member who will be going abroad.

Some shots taken during a ten-minute break in between sets:

Tractors and men.

August 15th, 2006

I passed a construction site the other day while it was raining. So what, right? Yet I saw a flock of like 15-20 men around this construction site.

I peeked a little to see what the big deal was. I figured something really fascinating was happening.

There was a forklift and some kind of tractor with a huge digging thing (whatchamacallit) that was boring this humungous hole on the ground. It was like… digging 5 seconds, dumping mud 5 seconds, digging, then dumping…

Duh?

My date wasn’t for another hour, so I walked a bit slower to have a look, not at the construction site and the tractors, but at the guys swarmed around the walkway. They were of all kinds: coats, barongs, neckties, jackets, ragged jeans, shorts, crewnecks, sandos, backpacks, suitcases, chinito, pimply… and very likely each on their own, coz none of them were talking with each other. They were all just standing there, staring. They stayed there for the entire time I could see them as I walked. About 5-6 guys added to the crowd even in my at least 60 second visual range.

The tractor wasn’t even shiny, and the weather wasn’t exactly fun, and there weren’t any construction workers apart from the guy operating the big tractor.

Women, in heels or not, passed behind these guys without so much a glance at anything.

Be Careful What You Click For

August 15th, 2006

I am no Adam Sandler fan.

His and good buddy Rob Schneider’s films almost always falls on the same type of comedy. Critics call it “Immature comedy” which I agree wholeheartedly. Most of their films are not worth seeing again. One viewing is more than enough. I did liked Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates though (which coincidentally both stars Drew Barrymore).

The Warrior of the Light.

August 14th, 2006

Like the little stalker that I am I wrote him a short praise letter. He wrote back :) Generic-sounding as it is, it’s still cool to me.

Dear Pen,

My sincere thanks for your kind email.

Your thoughts about my work are important to me and I am grateful for your interest.

May love be your guide in every moment of your life.

Maybe a webmaster had this automated somehow. I dunno. I’m real easy to please. Didn’t even think of that ’til now (a day after :P )

The Amazing Race.

August 11th, 2006

I know how late I am when it comes to what stuff is new and happening. So yeah, I normally don’t watch a lot of TV, but because of my faithful personal TiVo (Ajay’s unwavering divX files) I get to see recent past and present TV fads. He brought me up to speed in the Amazing Race. I first got a glimpse of this reality gig on a local channel showcasing the initial episode of that series with Survivor couple Rob and Amber (season 7). I never got to see the subsequent episodes. I wasn’t even able to ride the hype of the show when it passed through the Philippines on one of its legs in Season 5 Just for the record, I gotta say I’m no big fan of reality TV. Yet this one is something else. Getting a sneak peek into what’s there to see in Russia or Brazil is really sumthin!

(spoilers may follow)

Ajay and I watched another season (season 9) featuring BJ and Tyler, the “Hippies”. I was so rooting for them from the very beginning. Imagine my contented silence when the race was over and they were declared winners. It was surprising to see the race end so suddenly with their victory, I wanted to see more. Their closest competition, the “Fratboys” (I realize I can’t remember their names) were almost always ahead of the race; you can see how disappointed they were to come in second on the last leg. BJ and Tyler, who were always in a frolicky cheery demeanor, got plenty lucky despite being sloppy towards the end. They even lost their cash by arriving last in non-elimination pit-stops! But boy, they are really funny to watch and silly as they come, they’re quite devious too.

I’d have to agree with what one of the contenders said that the show made them feel how small the world was. Ajay and I got to chatting about how wonderful it would be to visit so many countries (they went to 9 I think?) in a month’s time! That has got to be the goal for a honeymoon dontchathink? ;) Now how does one join such a contest…

Adios Animo.

August 9th, 2006

Kamikazee was playing for the Greenery during their usual Wednesday University Break. Havoc! I was waiting for offices to resume by 1.30 pm and there they were, screaming their hats off. (literally, some were wearing kikay hats, I swear)

Black and white now confirms I’ve been de-greenized.

Boracay 2006

August 7th, 2006

Boracay 08/02/06
Sorry for the picture… the sand castle was still in progress when this photo was taken. We were not able to come back for the completed sand castle and take a picture of it. Anyway, this is the only picture that has “Boracay” on it, not to mention the date the picture was taken. ?

Birthday Girl

August 1st, 2006

Another year has passed. The tradition of handaan/pakain during Pen’s birthday will have to be on hold for this year. We will be celebrating this one by ourselves. *wink*

Secret muna kung saan kasi pangit ang panahon. Baka lalong maudlot. We promise to put up pictures when we get back.

This entry is a day early because we cannot probably be online for the next couple of days.

Happy happy birthday Pen! May you have many more to come.
