Centipede Bite.

Scary and nasty buggers centipedes are. Doesn’t it just chill your spine to see one move so fast even from a distance? The thought of one to have touched my skin this morning is horror! More awful thought than a cockroach! (Although I read just now that centipedes prey on cockroaches, so in that aspect horrah for them)
I’ve known all my life that centipede bites are venomous. I had a chance to tweak that belief to “poisonous and may be lethal to small vertebrates” and “have been know to be mortal in a single case worldwide: a 7-year old Filipino girl bitten in the head by a 23-inch long centipede”. [reference]
So good, I’m not yet set to leave this world. Not exactly the way to go as I’ve imagined.
I never experienced an “insect” bite this painful. I woke up suddenly to a needle-like prick to my right side. I didn’t realize I’ve been bitten until I saw a centipede (about 3-quarters of a foot long) snaking away across the side of the bed. Awful horrible sight, and my first instinct was to search the internet…
These Asian red centipedes’ fangs have poison but, lucky for me, not enough to kill a person. My dad says the venom makes it really painful, gawsh…. and yes the internet does say it could be worse. I’m actually feeling very heavy on my right side, as if I had a vise clamped down hard. It’s been that way for 2 hours now. The stabbing pain could last for hours the internet says, or weeks in some cases. What a way to start my hellish last two weeks in school.
Trusty liniment has calmed me down now.

nakagat ka ng higad?!
tsk, tsk… tapos first instinct mo after ka nakagat ay mag-internet? hehe
pero malamang nilagyan mo muna ng caladryl ano? na-imagine ko kasi nung nakita mo yung higad, agad-agad kang nag-internet.
di ba higad – caterpillar, alupihan – centipede?
oo nga. di pala higad yung centipede. pero di ko rin sure kung alupihan iyun sa tagalog.

pero preho tyo pen… d first thing i would do (kso dhel wla akong internet sa bahay) is look it up (bka sa encyclopedia or health/medicine books). how to deal with those kinds of bites, other possible reactions.. etc. … hehe ladies are wired differently talga

hmm, ang mga lalaki ba anong unang gagawin? ako siguro hahabulin ko yung alupihan para madurog ko ng madurog sa galit ko. hehe.
alam ko ung alupihan gamit un ng mga korean doctors noon para matanggal ang sakit ng ngipin(napanood ko doon sa jewel in the palace)

Ayon sa aking pananaliksik (hehe) sa mga mejo basa at madilim na lugar yan namumugad. (Like, beneath rocks and potted plants) Noong nakagat ako natutulog ako sa sala namin, at ang hinala namin ay naligaw iyon mula sa hardin namin sa labas. Kasi meron kaming tambak ng graba (gravel) malapit sa pintuan papasok ng bahay. Ayun nga, paghukay namin sa ilalim, andami!!! May colony na yata dun, kasi mula sa malaki hanggang sooooobrang liliit meron. Sa kilabot ko eh nag-research uli ako, at nakita ko naman na meron ding iba na may ganitong nadiskubre sa bahay. Lalu na sa mga probinsya na may mga lugar na hindi sinisimento, at madalas natatabunan at nananatiling basa (damp) ng ilang panahon.
Mula ng sinimento na ang bahagi na yun ng bahay namin, wala na sila. Nailibing na ng buhay!!

hi… i was just bitten by a centipede while asleep. all my nerves woke up when i felt the sting, burning sting! on my butt. i was wearing boxers then… though i got a bite still thankful because it did not sting on my dingdong…lol. it happened 1:27 am, it is already past 2am, but still painful.
my first instinct was to let the needle-like-wound bleed then i put vinegar and crushed garlic on it (primitive instinct) then liniment. then i felt the numb feeling round my thigh. i thought it was going to be paralyzed. the second thought was to search the net about centipede bite if it is deadly. and i found out that it is not what i thought. whew! thanks goodness…ouch it’s still painful… and i have this childish thought, maybe tomorrow i’ll be more stronger smarter and
has intensed senses like that of spiderman hahahaha…
anyways that thing is already dead right now cut in half. seriously my butt is still painful right now ahhhh… is it true bout the 7 yr old girl died from a centipede bite? from the Philippines?

I don’t know anything about a centipede bite having any health benefits. Does anyone? You’re too into spiderman, now put that comic book down. =)
I don’t remember the prick bleeding at all, so I wouldn’t have thought of letting it bleed. But if I had made a slight incision it would have. Hmmm… that would’ve drained the venom, and might’ve helped to decrease the amount of time I had to suffer through that pain.

hey u know what i did not went back to sleep last night. time passed while i am net surfing only to find out its already four am so i get up from the chair and stay away from computer monitor then change my self getting ready for a jug which i planned earlier that night. basically, i got only one hour of sleep and it has nothing to do with the bite… i just stay awake i feel better feeling the pain awake than sleeping it all out with a hope that tomorrow morning the sting has gone. well, i spend almost an hour jogging around the oval and i found out there is no pain anymore in my butt.
i think jogging or some activities that elevates circulation might help ease the pain at a shorter duration.
nakagat rin ako ng centipede..kahapon (May 23), 2 am…
i was reading a book habang nakahiga patagilid…naramdaman ko na lang na may gumapang sa may balikat ko…
first instinct eh hawakan kung anu man yun…at yun na nga… almost isang dangkal siguro ang haba nung centipede na nahawakan at tinapon ko… gumapang sya sa gilid ng room ko… sa ilalim ng computer table…
the bite was painful, but i ignored it… hinanap ko muna yung lintik na alupihan na yun… at yun nga pinagtatapakan ko hanggang madurog ng husto..
and then… ramdam na ramdam ko na yung saket ng kagat..kaya nag panic na ko… umiyak na ako at ginising ang parents ko sa kabilang room… nilagyan ng father ko ng kalamansi yung bite.. yun yata yung una nyang nakita sa kitchen…tapos pinisil ng pinisil yung kinagat para siguro lumabas kung anu mang poison ang meron…
iyak pa rin ako ng iyak…paranoid na ko… ayaw kong matulog kase baka hindi na ako magising…
i really thought it’s venomous…i remembered the kill bill movie, where Bill’s brother was killed by the Black Mamba snake… the snake was so venomous and it could kill you in less than 15 minutes lalo na kung sa face ka nakagat…
then i texted my nurse friend, i asked kung deadly nga yung kagat ng centipede…hindi naman daw… but she advised me to go to a clinic for insect bite med.
so that afternoon, since medyo maga pa yung kagat.. i went to the hospital na… tiningnan ng derma… niresetahan lang ako ng antihistamin, saka clobetasol cream…
now… i don’t think i can sleep with lights off anymore…

me too I’m already 24yrs old and it’s only today that I get to changed my belief about about the centipedes that they are not poisonous and deadly thanks to this forums… clorox lang katapat nila…
wow! buti nalang meron ganitong blog. naloka ko. auntie ko kasi kanina naghuhugas daw sya ng pinggan tapos maya maya may gumapang na sa paa nya, yun nga yung lintik na alupihan na yan! ako takot na takot dyan e todo tili pag may nakikita sa house namin. first instinct ko maghanap nga ng solution sa internet at dito ko napadpad! natakot ako kasi ang alam ko tlga e poisonous yung centipede yun pala indi hay salamat! eto si auntie todo lagay ng vicks tsaka alcohol! hahahahaha… pero masakit nga daw. salamat ulit! im sure madadagdagan pa to ng comments.
